Beautiful trip that starts in Putre, passing through the Lluta Valley where we can see the candelabra cactus. We will visit the Lauca National Park which was created in 1970. It covers an area of 137,883 hectares, which includes areas of the foothills and the highlands.
In 1981 it was declared an integral part of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves.
DAY 01 – ARICA TO PUTRE
Welcome to the North of Chile! After meeting at the Arica Airport, you will have a personal transfer to Putre where you will stay the night in this small Northern town.
DAY 02 – FULL-DAY LAUCA NATIONAL PARK
You will have a full-day excursion starting with a drive along the international highway towards Bolivia. We will venture through desertic landscapes, valleys, gorges and the Andes Mountains until we arrive at the impressive altiplano. Crowned with mountains that surpass 6,000 meters, the altiplano is a can’t-miss area. Here, we will visit Lluta, Copaquilla, the small town of Parinacota and its baroque-Andean-style church, the Chungara Lake, and the Lauca National Park. The park is a Biosphere Reserve thanks to its stretching landscapes and unique native flora and fauna. Afterward, we will retune to Arica.
DAY 03 – CITY TOUR AND AZAPA MUSEUM
Today, we will have a 6-hour excursion to the Lluta and Azapa Valleys. These unique areas are rich in archaeological remains and cultural history. They were two of the local cultures developed and became two most important civilizations in Latin America: Tiwanaku and Inca. There, we will visit the Geoglyphs and Petroglyphs along with the pre-Colombian food storage spaces, the on-site museum, the wetlands of Lluta and the San Miguel de Azapa Museum. Inside the museum, we will find the exposition of the Chinchorro mummies. These are the oldest mommies in the world! Later on, we will visit the small town of San Miguel and its cemetery, one of the oldest in South America that is still in use!
